Former Coronation Street and EastEnders star Michelle Collins has revealed how her teenage daughter fought back from major surgery and the death of her father to gain three top grade A levels.

Proud mum Michelle, 53, who gave up acting briefly to support her sick daughter Maia, 18, said at one point she thought her only daughter was so poorly she may have to leave school for good.

Speaking after the ‘A’ Level results came out earlier this week Michelle said: “I am so proud of her.

“She is amazing.

At the beginning of the school year, we were unsure if she would make it back to school at all.

“It was awful. She was in shock and felt overwhelmed. But now she has achieved this.”

Maia is now going to Bristol University to study for a degree in History after a holiday in Ibiza with her mother.

Last September, as Maia began her final A level year, she was rushed to hospital
